2007 - Niños del Tiempo / Children of Time

Los niños del tiempo: Las doce fotos de niños jugando, cantando, en intercambios amistosos, o patéticamente abandonados en un orfanato, mejoradas artísticamente, dicen más de lo que sugieren los títulos temáticos intervinientes. Cada una de las fotografías está superimpuesta en un mapa total o parcial de Polonia, con gran sensibilidad hacia la expresión de luces y sombras, y con una gran ilusión de profundidad. Este es el espacio, este el tiempo pasado del que aparecen estos niños (justo antes de la invasión alemana). Y cada fotografía, por su ampliación técnicamente tensa, ahora nos sugiere una realidad frágil y efímera de una era que justo se encuentra al borde de la memoria. Estas ilustraciones le preguntan al espectador que habrá sido de estos niños, y adónde habrán ido en un momento y en un país de exilios. Quizás reconocemos a la misma Sara Neumeyer en varias de estas imágenes, y le agradecemos los retratos evocativos de un lugar específico de una era que ha cambiado a nuestro mundo para siempre.

Children of Time - The twelve artfully enhanced snapshots of children playing, singing, having friendly exchanges, or pathetically abandoned in an orphanage, all say more than their intervening thematic titles suggest. Each photograph is superimposed upon a whole or partial map of Poland, with remarkable sensitivity to the expressiveness of light and shadows, and with a striking illusion of depth. This is the space, this is the time past (just before the German invasion), out of which these children appear. And each photograph, by its technically edgy enlargement, suggests to us now a fragile and fleeting reality of an era just on the brink of memory. What became of these children, and where did they go in a time and in a land of exiles, these illustrations ask of the viewer. We perhaps recognize Sara Neumeyer herself in several of the pictures, and thank her for evocative portraits from a specific locale and from an era that forever changed our world.
